1 Year Full Time Strength and Conditioning for Sport Course

Students spend one day a week based in an industry setting such as a strength and conditioning facility or a gym.

About The Course

Successful completion of this course will be the first step towards a career working with sports teams or individuals as a qualified strength and conditioning coach.

Specialist courses are provided as an option for students to achieve ITEC qualifications to industry standard, equip- ping you with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the field of strength and conditioning.

As a student on this course, you will spend four days per week in college receiving extensive training in instruction and conditioning techniques. Practical training will take place in our fully equipped gym on campus. On the fifth day, you will be based in an industry set- ting such as a strength and conditioning facility or a gym where you can enhance your skills and employment opportunities.

Students are encouraged to participate in college sports activities which are generally held on Wednesday afternoons.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate: O6/H7 in 5 subjects
or Leaving Certificate Applied
or QQI Level 4
Equivalent qualifications will be accepted

Mature Applicants

Mature applicants who have relevant industry experience and may not meet the above requirements are welcome to apply.

All applicants will be interviewed.

Progression Opportunities and Employment Prospects

Progression Opportunities

Sports Coaching (Personal Trainer) Level 6 at Inchicore College.

This route will give students the opportunity to achieve the valuable ITEC Personal Trainer Award as well as QQI Level 6 Award in Sport, Recreation and Exercise.

Students may also progress to the Higher National Diplomas in Sport that are offered at Inchicore College of Further Education.

Students may also avail of the Higher Education Links Scheme to access courses in many Institutes of Technology and Universities.

Employment Prospects

Options for graduates from this course include: Seeking employment as Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Fitness Instructors, working with National Governing Bodies or as Sport Development Officers.
