Does that old adage ring true for you that “everyone has at least one book in them?”. Maybe all you need is some guidance to find your voice and develop your style. This course is designed for both beginners and more experienced writers who wish to develop their own style and voice. The course comprises of workshop-led two-hour sessions in which the class will draw on exercises to unlock the individual writer’s greatest strengths, focusing on style, story and emotional resonance. Participants will cover a variety of forms and find the one best suited to the individual, so that by the end of the course each will have a short story, opening chapter of a novel, a short story scene or poem. The objective is to stimulate the imagination in a supportive environment and to foster a love for the writing process that will continue long after the course has ended.
Liz McSkeane is a poet, short story writer and novelist who was born in Scotland but has lived in Ireland since 1981. Liz won the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award for her poetry and her début novel, ‘Canticle‘, was a winner in the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair. Her collection of short stories, ‘What to Put in a Suitcase‘ was published in October 2023. Liz is also the founder and Director of Turas Press, an independent publishing house based in Dublin. Liz draws on her extensive experience as an educationalist and adult education teacher, to teach creative writing to adults, both beginners and those who have some experience and wish to improve their writing practice.
