Children’s Healthcare Assistant – Level 5 |
Our highly experienced staff will lead you to realise the importance of developmental milestones in your work experience with children in hospitals, childcare and special needs settings.
Healthcare support for children is extremely rewarding as a career. Children have unique needs and our experienced staff will guide you through the theory, skills and attitudes to assist children from 0-18 years with their health and well being and learn how to communicate with families.
Our highly experienced staff will lead you to realise the importance of developmental milestones in your work experience with children in hospitals, childcare and special needs settings.
Work Experience
Students attend work experience for one day per week and there is an additional block placement in the spring.
Placements take place in any setting working with children’s health and well being including hospitals, special education and community health services. Students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and theory they have acquired in the college to patient care.
Course content may be revised for educational or organisational reasons.

Additional Certification
Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate: O6/H7 in 5 subjects.
or Leaving Certificate Applied.
or QQI Level 4.
Equivalent qualifications will be accepted
Mature Applicants
Mature applicants who have relevant experience and may not meet the above requirements are welcome to apply.
Applicant Information Meeting
All applicants will be invited to an Applicant Information Meeting.
Progression Opportunities
Level 7/8 in Early Childhood Care and Education, TUD, IT Carlow and Health & Society, DCU.
Employment Prospects
Employment as a HCA in the new National Children’s Hospital, St. John of God and Menni Services, Stuarts Hospital, Cheeverstown House, National Children’s Hospital and similar special needs settings.
