About The Course

2 years part-time, 2 days per week – Childcare Courses
QQI Level 5

This is the final year of this award leading to the major QQI Level 5 award Early Childhood Care and Education. This course is designed for learners who have already accumulated relevant modules, maybe currently working in childcare and wish to gain a professional qualification. The specialist teachers on this course take a student-centred approach to learning and use a variety of teaching methods.

The course is offered on a part-time basis and students attend one day per week (Fridays, 9.30am – 4.00pm).

Work experience, which is an important part of the course, should be obtained in crèches, pre-schools, after-school clubs, nurseries, Montessori schools, Naíonraí or primary schools.

The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI)

The Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) provides part-time further education courses for young people and adults. Those in receipt of unemployment payments or means-tested social welfare benefits, holders of medical cards and their dependants are entitled to free tuition. Others will be required to pay the appropriate college fees.

Entry Requirements

This course is designed for learners who have already accumulated ECCE modules at Level 5 and seeking to complete the major award. All applicants will be invited to an Applicant Information Meeting.

Progression and Career Opportunities

On completion of the 2 year course learners may progress to the Advanced Certificate in Early Learning and Care Stage 2.

Employment and Career Opportunities

There are employment opportunities for graduates of the programme as Early Years Assistants with opportunities to progress to Room Leader in a range of early learning and care settings, both private and community based.
