Description
This class is suitable for improvers. An improver will be familiar and secure in the basic vocabulary at the barre and in the centre. You will continue to work and develop these fundamentals while developing strength and coordination. Each class will start at the barre. You will then move into the centre of the room and transfer the barre work into the centre and also work on pirouette technique, adage, and the three different types of allegro – petit, middle, and grand. The focus will be on coordination and posture. You will finish class with a stretch and cooldown. This class is suitable for all ages and is wonderful for men and women. All are welcome to learn in a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment.
Laura trained at the National College of Dance and danced professionally with Dublin City Ballet. She was a founder member of Irish Modern Dance Theatre. She has also worked for Dance Theatre of Ireland and Coiscéim Dance Theatre. Laura has danced nationally and internationally to great acclaim. Laura is a regular teacher for Dance Ireland’s professional dance programme. She teachers company classes and has taught for John Scott Dance and Coiscéim Dance Theatre. Laura is also an accomplished choreographer and has her own company, Laura Macken Dance. She has received Arts Council funding to choreograph neoclassical work. She has just completed research, with Arts Council bursary support funding, on a new dance piece called Anecdotes and this will develop and be performed in 2024. Laura holds a B. Sc. in counselling and psychotherapy from Middlesex University (2023) and an M.A. in dance from the University of Limerick (2017).
