Notes: *No previous experience is necessary, though you will need basic internet skills. This interactive course encourages hands on learning, so participants are advised to bring a laptop/tablet to hone their skills in class.

Curious about your family history and where your ancestors came from, but not sure how to begin? An introduction to Irish Genealogy is a classroom-based course where you will learn how to undertake the research and how to access and use key sources available including:
- Census returns
- Civil birth, marriages and deaths
- Church registers
- Military records
- DNA Genetic Genealogy

About your tutor: Maire MacConghaile

Máire Mac Conghail has been working as a genealogist for over fifty years. She received her training at the Genealogical Office under the stewardship of Eilish Ellis and the late Gerard Slevin, then Chief Herald of Ireland.
She has been a member of Accredite Genealogitss Ireland (AGI) since 1991, and for over twenty years she has taught Adult Education courses in family history at Kiltiernan, Co. Dublin. As an AGI member Máire participates in the Genealogy Service of the National Archives. She and her AGI colleague Paul Gorry were commissioned by HarperCollins to write Tracing Irish Ancestors, which was published at the end of 1997.
Máire served as Hon. Secretary of AGI 1995-1997, and as Hon. Treasurer 1999-2005. Máire is a member of the Council of the Irish Genealogical Research Society (IGRS) and a former Chairman of its Ireland Branch. She served as Chairman of the Council of Irish Genealogical Organisations (CIGO) in 2001/200.
