This is a one year Tourism course validated by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). It aims to provide people with the knowledge, practical experience and skills necessary to successfully pursue a career in the Tourism industry.

Description

This is a one year full time course. One day each week is assigned to industry work experience. In addition, all students must complete a two week block of work experience during the academic year. Students will have the opportunity to complete a portion of this work experience in another European country, funded by the Leonardo da Vinci Mobility Programme.

The balance between the academic and the practical application of skills gives students a unique opportunity to prepare for further study and employment.

Specialist speakers from the Tourism Industry are invited to speak to the students on a regular basis.

Field trips are organised by the college to allow students to assess the background of successful commercial tourism operations.

Assignments and projects are designed to be applicable and relevant to practical scenarios within the tourism industry.

  • Certificate in Occupational First Aid HSA

Entry Requirements

Candidates must obtain a minimum of five passes (Grade D3) in the Leaving Certificate or the Leaving Certificate Applied, to include English.

All candidates will be interviewed and should show a positive interest in pursuing a career in Tourism, have good communication skills and have an interest in dealing with people.

Progression and Career Prospects

On completion of this course students gain employment in airlines, hotels, tour operators, tourist offices, heritage centres, travel agencies etc.

Successful students will be eligible for entry to the two year Higher National Diploma course (irrespective of Leaving Certificate results).

Shirsha Biswas is an international student who graduated from Inchicore College with a QQI level 5 Award in Travel and Tourism in June 2012.

Shirsha embarked on the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Travel & Tourism Management in the College and graduated with a BTEC HND in June 2014.
