About The Course

Do you want a job in the fitness industry? Enrolling on this one year course could be the first step towards achieving that goal.

During this course, the student will have an option to enrol on a number of industry based qualifications. It also offers students the opportunity to gain valuable sports coaching awards with the FAI, GAA and Volleyball Association of Ireland.

Students typically spend four days a week in college, where the theory and practical elements of the course are covered with students receiving extensive training in instruction techniques. On the fifth day, the student will be based in an industry setting such as gyms or leisure centres.

Students are encouraged to participate in college sports activities which are generally held on Wednesday afternoons with life saving classes in a local pool.

We are constantly adapting our courses in line with market needs and industry demands.

We have a gym with modern equipment, TRX and spinning, a sports hall with competition size basketball court, 4 badminton courts, a maple sprung floor, an exercise to music studio with mirrored walls and sprung floor with wired sound system.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate: O6/H7 in 5 subjects
Leaving Certificate Applied
QQI Level 4
Equivalent qualifications will be accepted

Mature applicants who have relevant industry experience and may not meet the above requirements are welcome to apply.

Progression Opportunities

Sports Coaching (Personal Trainer) Level 6 at Inchicore College.

This route will give students the opportunity to achieve the valuable ITEC Personal Trainer Award as well as QQI Level 6 certification. See steps opposite. Students may also progress to the Higher National Diplomas that are offered at Inchicore College of Further Education.

Students may also avail of the Higher Education Links Scheme to access courses in many Institutes of Technology and Universities.

Employment Prospects

Options for graduates from this course include: Working with National Governing Bodies, Sport Development Officers and opportunities to work in leisure centres as Gym Instructors.
