Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business

The HND in BUSINESS is an internationally recognised qualification. This course aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to work effectively in a business environment and to develop specialist expertise in the area of their choice: legal procedure and practice or accounting.

Course Description

This is a two-year full time course, which requires college attendance four days per week. Work experience one day a week in a legal or business setting is an integral part of the course and is therefore compulsory.

Students are given the opportunity to study additional legal or accounting modules in each year. The balance between the academic and the practical application of skills gives students a unique opportunity to prepare for further study and employment.

Career Prospects and Progression

Graduates can find employment in areas within the business, legal and accounting sectors in organisations.

Graduates with appropriate grades can progress onto year three of the Business Management Degree Course in Tallaght IT or Blanchardstown IT, at the end of which, successful students are awarded a pass degree and are eligible to progress onto year three for the award of an honours degree.

Graduates can also progress onto year two of business degrees in NCI.
Other Higher Level Institutions will consider applications based on individual results.

Graduate Profile 

Geraldine McKenzie
Geraldine McKenzie graduated with a HND in Business with Legal Studies.

She went on to qualify with an LLB from Portabello and then for an LLM from Trinity College. She was a member of the Teaching Staff at Inchicore College of Further Education on the Legal Team.

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have attained five passes in the Leaving Certificates, including English and a Business subject. One pass must be on a higher level paper.

FETAC Level 5 with a merit profile.
Mature candidates who do not meet the formal requirements will also be considered on the basis of relevant work experience.
