Dance Studies
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing
The Imperial Society of Teachers of
Dancing was founded in London in 1904 to promote the art of
dancing in various forms. The Modern Theatre Dance branch
offers a series of examination from children’s grades
through to professional teaching qualifications in modern
dance.
The Foundation in Dance Instruction is
the first stage of the teaching qualifications, covering the
children’s grades from grade 1 to grade 5. The full
qualification, the Certificate in Dance Education, covers up
to Intermediate standard, and entitles the holder to full
registration with the ISTD and to enter students for
examinations.
The subjects covered in both sections
of the teaching qualifications include practical teaching
skills, health and safety, lifespan and development, the
graded syllabi, music and dance, and the background to the
chosen dance genre.
